The New Canaanites were a fictional Marvel Comics despotic regime that replaced the empire of the mutant overlord Apocalypse in the future timeline from which X-Men member Cable came from.
While the Askani'Son miniseries established that the New Canaanites came into power after Apocalypse was overthrown (Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix #4), earlier issues such as Cable (vol. 2) #6 and X-Force #17 reveal that Apocalypse was the leader of the New Canaanite regime and fighting against the adult Cable shortly before traveling to the present. This continuity issue was caused by Scott Lobdell ignoring Fabian Nicieza's plot. Both Cable (vol. 2) #6 and X-Force #17 were written by Nicieza. However when Lobdell later wrote the limited series Askani’Son and Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix, he killed Apocalypse, leaving the plot hole of how he can later be alive and work together with the Canaanites.
